Happy New Year

Eleven days without setting foot into a school -- any school -- felt really nice. No high school. No day care. No speech therapy. How nice to spend so much time with a pair of the funniest rugrats. It was a week of silly, competitive singing. It was a week of chasing the pipsqueaks through the house with the toaster tongs with the threat of tweeking their buns. It was a week of princess pajamas and cookies for breakfast.

For Christmas, they each received a pair of pink Dora Crocs from Santa, along with matching Mickey and Minnie sweatshirts and Disney princess pajamas. All were hits. Heck, even the character socks were a hit.

So we went out for Chinese food on New Year's Eve. Dynasty, in Emmaus. Fortunately, our wishes were granted when we saw French fries listed as an appetizer. Glory be to Dynasty. The girls could eat. They loved the tea cups, the sizzling platters, the fortune cookies. On the way home, the singing began.

Kendall: "We wish you a Merry Kwanzaa, we wish you a Merry Kwanzaa, we wish you a Merry Kwanzaa and a Happy New Year."

Grace: "Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made you out of clay; dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, something something that rhymes with clay."

Today I celebrated the New Year with a 10-miler, no Garmin! I put in 54 miles last week; it was probably 55, but I never count the extras. Twelve weeks to Wirefly National...and almost halfway to summer break! Woo-hoo!
